Word Ladders

A CVC word is a word made up of a consonant, a vowel, and then another consonant. Vowels are A, E, I, O and U. Every other letter is a consonant.

Each player will need a different coloured pen.

Player 1 writes a CVC word, such as ‘cat, pet, lad,’ on the board, neatly joined.

Player 2 must create a new word from the original word by only changing one letter and they write this next to the original word.

For example, if Player 1 wrote ‘bat,’ Player 2 might change the ‘a’ to an ‘i’ to create ‘bit.’

Play continues until one player cannot think of a new word, they have then lost the game.
